Converting drawings to AutoCAD (DWG and DXF format)
Pearl Scan provides AutoCAD conversion and manual drafting services from hard copy documents into the AutoCAD standard DXF and DWG file format. We can scan any large format drawings up to A0 size or possibly larger, by scanning into a usable electronic format such as PDF, TIFF or JPEG they can be viewed on any computer and are therefore accessible while in or away from the office.
Once these are in electronic format we can then have these drawings manually drafted into layers converting the lines and sections on the original drawings into editable areas in AutoCAD which is useful for architects and planners who often use the software.
Manual and Automatic CAD conversion
By manually drafting these drawings into CAD format it offers a clean conversion to an editable format these will be completed with high quality and we can carry out the work in a short space of time for any volume of drawings required. We also offer a straight automatic conversion process where no manual drafting is involved and our software automatically converts the drawing image into a DWG or DXF format, though this is more affordable it offers less accurate results.
Manual CAD Conversion process
Upon receiving the paper drawing we will scan and convert that through our high format scanners with the necessary dpi required to convert it to a raster image. Once the raster image is prepared we will either digitise the drawing in AutoCAD using software like CAD Overlay or manually redraw it which is recommended.
Original drawing entities are manually scaled for actual dimensions and redrawn using the scanned image as a reference background. Unclear or difficult to interpret data on the original documents is placed on a “doubt” layer in the CAD file. Once the initial drafter has completed the manual redraw, our quality control reviews the CAD file and compares it again to the paper document.
